Sunday brunch is as much a Coastie tradition as a morning dip in the ocean or afternoon tipple at the pub, and with cute cafes up and down the Coast, it’s worth rolling out of bed, grabbing a paper and whiling the day away with a relaxing seaside breaky.
Here are some of our favourite Central Coast cafes for Sunday brunch by the sea…
The Point cafe at Avoca Beach
The Point Cafe at Avoca Beach is seaside dining at its best. Located under Avoca Surf Club, the cafe is a stone’s throw from the ocean and has uninterrupted views of the beach.
The long list of options on the breakfast menu include pancakes, a Spanish omelette, goat’s cheese souffle and breakfast bruschetta.
At anytime of year, the cafe is packed with surfers, walkers, cyclists, locals and visitors keen to drink in one of the Coast’s best beaches with a latte or green smoothie in hand.
Brunch at the BOX on the Water at Ettalong
For brunch with a view of nothing but blue, the BOX on The Water is the place for you. Built right on Ettalong’s waterfront, the stylish structure has floor-to-ceiling glass windows offering a panorama from Ettalong Beach out to Box Head.
The restaurant has a superb menu to match the killer views including weekend treats like French toast and a tropical porridge.
Out back is an old-school kiosk offering takeaway coffee and snacks like bacon and egg or sausage rolls.
Bellyfish cafe, Terrigal
Ideally located across the road from Terrigal beach, Bellyfish cafe is a funky place to grab a weekend breaky.
Their all-day-brunch offers big and colourful plates of all the ingredients that get you out of bed on a Sunday – eggs, mushrooms, chorizo, fetta, salmon, halloumi, sourdough – with many sourced locally, supporting great Coastie businesses like Little Creek Cheese, Margins Mushrooms and the Egg Shed.
If the fresh sea air doesn’t do the trick, their single origin coffee will get your day off to the right start.
Cove Cafe, Terrigal
It might as well be called the Cove d’azur with the sparkling sea view reminiscent of something you’d find on the French Riviera.
Cove cafe is a sun-drenched cafe located at the Haven with a vista spanning the length of Terrigal’s beach, all the way to Wamberal and beyond.
It’s a small cafe with a couple of vintage sofas inside but it’s the tables fringing the beach that are hot property on the weekend.
Muffins and scones are baked fresh daily, and there’s an extensive drinks offering including milkshakes, teas and a deluxe hot chocolate menu.
Tommys at Gosford
Located on the side of the Gosford Sailing Club (now famous for gold medal winning Rio Olympians and Paralympians), Tommys kiosk is a cute and casual cafe with views over Gosford’s sparkling waterfront and the sail boats that call this pretty patch home.
The coastal chic aqua colour code that flows from the crockery to the tables fits perfectly with the marine location. Seating spills onto the grass and includes a bench with rustic hessian stools.
Great coffee and freshly baked treats lure locals down for their Sunday hit. Tommy’s muffins are legendary with flavour combos including violet crumble, lemon meringue and coconut and mango.
Pearl Beach cafe
With an ocean mural on the ceiling, walls lined with artwork inspired by the sea and brush turkey treats for sale at the counter, Pearl Beach General Store & Cafe has embraced all that is quintessential about its chic seaside suburb.
The eclectic cafe is located across the road from beautiful Pearl Beach, in the shade of a giant gum and also operates as a general store and takeaway. As the only source of food and supplies (aside from nearby restaurant Pearls on the beach), it’s the lifeblood of the small community and a brunch hot spot.
Tables line the sandy footpath allowing brunchers to soak up some sun and salty air with their latte and paper.
The menu offers classic Sunday morning fare, including a big breakfast, generous servings of bacon and eggs, omelettes and toasted sandwiches.
Pearl beach picnic
If sea-side isn’t close enough and you want to wriggle your toes in the sand while you’re munching on brunch, there are loads of cafes just a hop and a skip from the sea offering something yummy for a beach picnic.
The chic and colourful Lotus cafe is just up the road from Wamberal Beach making it the ideal place to nab a healthy snack and super smoothie en route to the sand.
LooLoo’s Coffee Shack is located on Scenic Drive, the perfect pit stop on the way to Macmasters Beach.
Then there’s Two Birds gallery cafe, conveniently located a few streets back from Toowoon Bay beach.
While Bella at Terrigal churns out smooth Tobys Estate coffee and takeaway snacks including breaky burritos, croissants and yummy yoghurt tubs.
Coastal Chic Tip: If you want the best seat in the house at a seaside cafe, it’s definitely best to book in advance on weekends

I’ve been to most of these amazing brunch spots and they all have a few things in common… modern menus, relaxed and friendly atmosphere and most importantly, great coffee!! Definitely a list worth working your way through!!
