At the end of 2016 the property got snapped up by a couple of young couples that have a combined 50 years’ experience in the hospitality industry.
In a bid to inject some fresh blood into the location, Coasties Anna Horseley and Aaron Sinclair joined forces with Sydneysiders Katherine Marson and Kimball Towney, who couldn’t resist the opportunity for a sea change.
Having grown up on the Coast and spent the past eight years managing a café in Gosford’s CBD, Anna said she loved being able to work within a Coastie community where she could get to know the locals. While she is the lovely blonde you’ve probably seen flitting around the joint, her partner Aaron works behind the scenes.
After two decades managing bars in Sydney, Kimball is relishing the change of scenery. As an account manager for hospitality juggernaut Merivale, his missus Kat is in charge of making it a go-to destination for weddings and events on the Coast. With a view as good as any of Justin Hemmes’ Sydney-based properties, Kat sees great potential.
Since the takeover, the menu has swerved away from Latin American towards the fruits of the sea – a more fitting menu for the waterfront location.
The nachos and tacos that families love are still there, but there are also seafood platters brimming with juicy prawns, rock oysters and succulent Alaskan crab claws.
The mussel bowls and scampi on rice both make a satisfying sidekick for an afternoon beer or chilled rose.
With its grey weatherboard and white trim, you can be forgiven for thinking Margarita Daze looks like any other million dollar mansion on the beach, except this is one property we all get to enjoy.
At Margarita Daze, the doors are always open and the day bed forever beckons.
